The next-generation Chevrolet Cruze is under development and will make its way to the roads somewhere around 2016. Till then a facelifted version of the Cruze will be on sale this season. And the updated is all set to make its official debut at the upcoming New York Auto Show on April 16th.
The Cruze has been Chevrolet's best-selling model worldwide, with more than 2.5 million deliveries since launching in 2009. But with the Ford Focus receiving an update and Volkswagen’s new Golf about to arrive, GM is not in a mood of taking things lightly and getting its Cruze ready for the competition. To keep sales brimming,
Borrowing the styling cues from its elder siblings- Malibu and Impala. The changes are more-or-less limited to the front-end that boast a more elaborate dual-port front grille with chrome surrounds and a re-profiled bumper that houses LED daytime running lamps on the higher trims. While interiors are being marginally treated, such as the addition of new cupholders and relocation of the trunk release to the centre console and door lock switches to the front doors.
On the connectivity front, Chevy has played big this time, as the new Cruze comes equipped with various innovative features. These includes a new Text Message Alerts feature for smartphone users with Bluetooth profile (M.A.P.), which reads incoming texts through the speakers, and Siri Eyes Free for iPhone iOS 6 and iOS 7 uses. Each enables voice-controlled connectivity, to help keep phones in pockets and hands on the wheel. Then there’s the available OnStar 4G LTE with Wi-Fi hotspot, offering high-speed data connection for the cabin. It can accommodate seven devices at a time.
No changes have been made to the engine lineup, which means three engine options: turbocharged 1.4-litre and conventional 1.8-liter gasoline engines, and a 2.0-liter turbodiesel. For safety, the new Cruze comes with 10 air bags as standard, and buyers can add additional safety features such as blind spot and rear cross traffic warning systems, rearview camera and park assist.
