The European New Car Assessment Program (Euro NCAP) has made the official crash test reports of the new generation C-Class W205 public today and it seems, that the new model is about as safe as Mercedes Benz aficionados would expect. In other words, the all-new generation of the C-class has been awarded a 5-star safety rating.
In the front offset crash test, the passenger compartment of the randomly-chosen C 220 BlueTec preserved its shape during the impact, while the driver and passenger crash test dummies indicated good protection of the knees and femurs. In the side barrier test is concerned, the C-Class offered good protection for all passenger body regions, scoring the maximum points. On the other hand, the side pole impact test, along with the rear whiplash protection were reported to be as the weakest points of the car, as injuries to the torso and the neck were rated as ‘marginal’.
Number-wise, the Mercedes Benz C-Class W205 scored a total of 92 per cent in Adult Occupation protection, 84 per cent in Child Occupant protection, 77 per cent in Pedestrian safety and 70 per cent in the Safety Assist category. In the Child Occupant Protection category, the C-Class obtained a total of 20.6 points, while the Child Safety features contributed another 9.0 points. The Pedestrian Safety category brought in 9 points. The Safety Assist features such as ESC, seat belt reminder, the lane support systems, etc. contributed to 9 more points.
