Renault India has released the first official image of its next offering in the country - Lodgy MPV. Although, the French automaker had earlier confirmed that it would launch two all-new products in India in 2015 and the MPV was also spied as a test mule several times on Indian roads, albeit with heavy camouflage. But, now with the first image out, it can be said that Renault Lodgy is just a couple of months away to hit the Indian shores.
Going by the image, it seems that Renault, which sells Lodgy under Dacia branding internationally, has made multiple changes to the MPV's Indian avatar. It is expected that this 7-seater MPV would also be underpinning the same platform as the various other company products do. "Renault holds the distinction of being the inventor of the MPV, with the Renault Espace, launched in Europe three decades ago, and its expertise will be reflected in its new product offering for India: An MPV called "The Renault Lodgy", the company said in a statement.
The engine options and transmissions are unknown yet, but there is a strong vibe that it could be powered by Duster's 1.5L diesel motor, which would churn out 85 PS of top power. Renault India added, "Renault Lodgy will redefine the segment as a complete “Multi-Purpose Vehicle” and deliver best in segment performance. Renault is taking major steps to increase its presence in India and will be entering the volume and growth segments to strengthen its position."
The Lodgy MPV, upon its launch, would challenge the likes of Honda Mobilio, Maruti Ertiga, and Toyota Innova in the country and it is expected to be priced in the range of Rs. 7-10 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom, India).
