There has always been a certain sense of desirability attached with the iconic Ford Mustang muscle car. Add the fact that it has a special edition and more potent version in the form of the Shelby GT350 and importance of the car hits sky rocket. And now the Ford has announced that this Shelby GT350 will be limited only to 137 units for the model year 2015.
Introduced in Novemeber 2014 at the Los Angeles Auto Show, only 100 units will be built for the GT350. The car is built to be the more powerful version of the original Mustang cars and comes powered with a naturally aspirated V8 5.2-litre engine. The engine will give an output of 100 bhp per litre, that would come out to be more than 520 bhp of total power at 8250 rpm.
On the other hand, the Shelby GT350R was launched in January at NAIAS and is described by Ford as "the most track-ready road-going production Mustang ever built." While the engine is the same V8 5.2-litre unit with over 520 bhp output, the body will be more aerodynamic to make the car more race oriented. As a matter of fact, GT350R did a lap of Nurburgring in 7 minutes and 32 seconds.
"Fans of the Shelby brand are among the most passionate in the automotive industry," said Henry Ford III, Ford Performance marketing manager. "To honor the passion of our fans for Shelby GT350's 50th anniversary, a limited run of GT350 models will be built in 2015; these cars will be highly coveted by both Mustang and Shelby enthusiasts alike."
And according to the Shelby boss and brand manager Jim Owens, the GT350 model will be available "later this year". He went on to specify that the GT350 will be limited to 100 cars only while the rest 37 units will be the GT350R. The GT350 will come equipped with the Technology Package for half the cars and the Track Package for rest. The GT350R on the other hand, will have a limited-slip differential and six-speed manual gearbox.
