Amidst all the Italian Supercars and the occasional German beauties stand tall a car which may not be the best looking Supercar, but definitely is one of the most loved Supercar. We are talking about the Audi R8 which is recently been spotted completely undisguised in its 2016 avatar ahead of its global debut at the Geneva Motorshow this March.
Ever saw the Audi's Quattro and Nanuk concepts? Well, the new R8 seems to draw a lot of inspiration from both these concepts and can be seen in front via a 6-point grille and large air intakes placed right below the redesigned headlamps. While the side profile almost looks similar to the outgoing car, the conventional air scoops have been provided against the side blade.
What will power the car, has not been disclosed yet. But, the chances are that the 2016 R8 will get more refined 5.2 litre V10 engine that could produce more power than the 550 hp R8 V10 Plus. Another engine could be a TDI variant of the R8 in 2017, which could be powered by a 4.0 litre turbo-diesel V8, or an even more exotic 5.0 litre V10 TDI, which Audi is developing for Bentley.
While the outgoing model came with a manual transmission option, the next generation R8 will be mated only to a 7-speed double clutch automatic gearbox and will have the Quattro all-wheel-drive system. The 2016 Audi R8 is expected to be lighter yet stiffer, thanks to the carbon fiber and aluminum construction of the underlying chassis.
India launch is expected somewhere in 2016, while the European launch is expected later this year. Pricing could very well exceed Rs 1.75 crore and will compete against the Porsche 911 and Ferrari 488 GTB.
