Luxury carmaker Audi has released the first teaser image of the all-new 2016 Audi R8, which is slated to make its worldwide debut at the upcoming 2015 Geneva Motor Show in March. Earlier this month, the all-new R8 was spotted completely undisguised.
The teaser image shows-off the new optional laser / LED headlights combo, which will be offered with the new 2016 Audi R8. The daytime running LED lights and headlights will be offered as standard, while the laser high beam will feature on the options list. The laser headlight system first made its debut on the Audi R8 LMX last year and also featured on the Audi R18 e-tron Quattro Le Mans endurance racecars.
Audi claims that the laser high beams attain nearly as twice the lighting range of LED high-beam headlights, with each headlight containing one laser module that operates with four high intensity laser diodes.
Mechanical details are still under wraps. However, the new R8 will share a platform with the Lamborghini Huracan and adopt Lambo’s composite chassis structure. The Huracan’s 5.2-litre V10 engine will also be carried into the new R8, although the engine will be slightly detuned to put out around 550PS of power. The engine will come mated to a 7-Speed double clutch automatic gearbox and will also feature Audi’s Quattro all-wheel drive system.
