2016 BMW X1 - Complete details revealed

Snapshot: BMW has officially revealed the details of the BMW X1. The car's a radical departure from the old one.

The X1 crossover from BMW has been officially revealed by the company. The new car is a huge departure from the old one and resembles the other cars from the company’s portfolio more closely. Some of the features of the new car include - sporty front bumper, LED headlights, a more prominent grille, plastic body cladding, sloping roof etc.  

The new X1 boasts of several other upgrades like - a heads-up display (optional), lane departure warning system, a driving assistant package with active cruise control, traffic assistant, pedestrian warning system with city braking and a collision warning system.

The new car would come equipped with front wheel drive system as standard unlike the old car which used rear wheel drive system on base variants and an all-wheel drive system would be available on higher variants. The car would be available with three styling packages Sport Line, xLine and M Sport. The M Sport package would include an aerodynamic body kit, 18-inch alloy wheels, Alcantara cloth sport seats, Aluminium Hexagon trim and matte blue accents etc.

The entry-level variants of the car would use cloth seats, Oxide Silver trim with black accents. The air conditioning and a 6.5-inch display with iDrive infotainment system comes as standard.  The customers would get the options to choose from Dakota leather seats, Fineline stream or Oak Grain wood trim.

The car would be available with five engine options. At launch, the model will be available with five different engines including:

2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel with 150 PS power and 330 Nm torque 
2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel with 190 PS power and 400 Nm torque 
2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel with 231 PS power and 450 Nm torque 
2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol with 192 PS power and 280 Nm torque
2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol with 231 PS power and 350 Nm torque

Initially, the car would be available with above engine options only. However, later, two other base variants (sDrive 16d and sDrive 18i) would also offer the option of 1.5 liter three cylinder engine. The 16d variant would produce116PS whereas the 18i would generate 136PS of power. 

The car would come equipped with two gearboxes ( a six speed manual / eight speed steptronic) depending upon the engine that it uses.
