BMW, the German luxury automaker, unveiled the next-generation X1 in June, this year, while it is slated to make its first public appearance at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, next month. However, as reported by import/export website Zauba, the 2016 BMW X1 has been imported in India for testing purposes. Just so you know, the 2016 X1 would be the first BMW product in India to be based on the company's new UKL front-wheel-drive architecture.
Needless to say, the exterior designing of the next-gen BMW X1 is way more contemporary than the preceding model. Moreover, it is around 135 kgs. lighter than its predecessor as it weighs a mere 1430 kgs. The new X1 measures 4439mm in length, 1821mm in width, 1598mm in height and 2670mm in wheelbase. However, the length is approx. 36mm lesser than the previous model, while width and height are upped by 21mm and 53mm, respectively. The variant imported in India is BMW X1 sDrive20d, reports Zauba. For those asking, a 6.5-inch screen with iDrive infotainment system would be offered as standard feature across the entire variant line-up.
The imported model - X1 sDrive20d - has a power output of 190bhp and peak torque of 400Nm. It is linked to an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission, which transmits the power to the front wheels. However, as learnt through sources, BMW might equip the higher variants with an xDrive AWD system. The fuel economy and carbon emission of the imported model are stated as 24.49kmpl and 128 g/km, respectively. It is expected that BMW India would introduce the new-gen X1 in the country in the first half of 2016, while being locally manufactured at company's production facility in Chennai - quite identical to the ongoing model.
