Hyundai India is all set to launch the 2016 Elantra on August 23, 2016 in the country. However, prior to the official launch, features and engine specs of the sedan have been leaked online, courtesy The Automotive India. It is being believed that the South-Korean automaker could price the 2016 Elantra sedan between Rs. 15-20 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom) in India. According to the leaked specifications, 2016 Hyundai Elantra would be available in five variants: S, SX, SX AT, SX (O), SX (O) AT.
Going by the report, the 2016 Elantra would come loaded with an array of exquisite features such as projector headlamps, LED daytime running lights (DRLs), 16-inch alloy wheels, LED tail-lamp cluster, shark fin antenna, parking sensors, 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple Carplay, satellite navigation, dual-zone automatic climate control, cruise control, sunroof and engine start/stop button. Just so you know, A couple of days back, the sedan was spotted undisguised in blue shade in Chennai. Hyundai Elantra challenges Chevrolet Cruze and Toyota Corolla Altis in the Indian market, as Honda Civic is not on sale in the country. It would be locally assembled at the company's production facility in Chennai.
Mechanically, the 2016 Elantra would be introduced in both petrol and diesel fuel trims. The petrol variants would get the 2.0L 4-cylinder MPI engine, which develops 150bhp of top power and 190Nm of peak torque. The engine would be linked to a 6-speed manual transmission as standard, while returning an impressive fuel economy of 14.60kmpl. Though, an optional automatic gearbox would also be on offer. Talking about the diesel variants, they would be powered by 1.6L 4-cylinder CRDi engine which churns out 126bhp of maximum power and 265Nm of highest torque. It would be coupled with a 6-speed manual transmission and would deliver a mileage of 22.40kmpl. The bookings for the sedan have already started at Hyundai dealerships.
