Hyundai India has revealed the 2016 i20 online ahead of its public debut on February 3 at the Auto Expo. 2016 Hyundai i20 comes with several cosmetic upgrades both outside and inside, while mechanically it is unchanged. The South-Korean automaker hasn't introduced an automatic variant of the hatchback yet. Hyundai i20 is at loggerheads with Honda Jazz, Maruti Baleno and Volkswagen Polo in the country.
Talking about the cosmetic upgrades, the updated i20 hatch gets projector headlamps with cornering lights and LED daytime running lights (DRLs). However, the aforesaid feature is only standard with the range-topping Asta (0) variant. For those wondering, projector headlamps with cornering lights and LED DRLs were limited to Euro-spec i20 hatchback and the Indian version of i20 pseudo-crossover till now. Another substantial update comes in form of driver airbag being made a standard feature in all the variants. However, the front passenger airbag is introduced from Sportz trim and above.
The entry-level variants in 2016 Hyundai i20 would now feature a music system with LCD display. Also, the flagship derivative of the 2016 i20 range - Asta (O) - comes with a 7-inch touchscreen system with Audio Video Navigation (AVN) system. Mechanically, the hatch remains the same as it continues to carry the same 1.2L VTVT Kappa petrol engine and 1.4L U2 diesel engine. The petrol variants are offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox, while the diesel variants have a 6-speed manual transmission as standard. 2016 Hyundai i20 has entered production and the first deliveries are expected to start by February end.
