The model was previewed a while back by the C-X17 concept and now it’s almost ready to show its production face as the F-Pace will receive its world premiere in mid-September at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The first images and details are expected to hit the web on Sep. 4, but we already can tell you a great deal about the model which is bound to use the same aluminum-intensive iQ[Al] platform as the XE and XF sedans.
As a consequence, it will be available with a wide array of economical four-cylinder turbocharged gasoline and diesel engines from the Ingenium family developed by JLR and will be available from day one in a hotter F-Pace S specification equipped with a larger V6 engine while a range-topping SVR model will eventually join the range with a V8 motor. Interestingly, there are also talks about a pure electric derivative which is expected to provide a maximum range of 483 km before recharging.
It should be mentioned Jaguar doesn’t describe the F-Pace as being an SUV as they like to call it “the ultimate practical sports car”. There’s not a lot to tell about the design after looking at this video, but it appears to stay true to the concept so expect the F-Pace to have one of the most exciting designs in its segment.
It will be the first of other crossovers/SUVs to come from Jaguar as already there are talks about a smaller model called E-Pace while a bigger J-Pace is expected before the end of the decade and will be based on the Range Rover facelift. While this will surely upset purists, we have to understand that Jaguar is in the automotive business primarily to make money so it makes sense for them to have several high-riding models since we all know how popular crossovers and SUVs are nowadays.
