The all-new 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander SUV has been confirmed to make its first public debut at the upcoming 2015 New York Auto Show in April. The heavily updated Outlander SUV was first previewed in the concept form as the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV Concept-S at the 2014 Paris Motor Show. At the time, the concept was described as a ‘special design package for the production Outlander PHEV.’
After a successful 2014 in terms of sales, Mitsubishi is working hard in order to update its entire range of products or the year 2015. “All of our 2016 model year vehicles will be refreshed with our new brand identity, starting with the 2016 Outlander, which will make its world premiere at the New York International Auto Show in April.” Mitsubishi Motors North America Executive Vice President Don Swearingen said.
The exteriors of the new Outlander have received some major changes in the form of a new front with revised grille and bonnet, and a new bumper with slimmer headlights. At the back, expect to see a completely new design with broad taillight assembly that follows the front-end in its X-shape form. On the inside too, the new Outlander will don significant changes with a new ’Black & Burgundy’ finish with red leather trim on seats, white piping and lowered dashboard and doors.
At the moment, Mitsubishi has not yet revealed too much about the oily bits. However, it is most likely that the new Outlander range will be offered with a choice of 2.0-litre and a 2.4-litre turbo diesel engine. A petrol electric plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version of the new Outlander could also be on its way. The Japanese company also unveiled the XR-PHEV Concept at the 2014 LA Motor Show last November and also brought the GC-PHEV Concept to the recently concluded 2015 Chicago Auto Show.
