Next-generation 2016 Toyota Fortuner would be making its world premiere on July 17, 2015 in Thailand. As seen through various spy-shots, the new Fortuner adorns a sharper design, gets a new chassis, better interiors and all-new powertrains. 2016 Toyota Fortuner is expected to make its Indian debut in the first half of 2016. It would continue to be assembled locally at the company's production facility in Bidadi, Karnataka from Thai-made CKD kits.
Now, the folks at Headlight Mag, have come up with the features and variants of the new Fortuner SUV. It is being reported that new-generation Toyota Fortuner would be offered with two diesel engines and one petrol engine in Thailand. The two diesel engines at the helm would be a 2.4L mill and a more powerful 2.8L motor. Talking about the variants in diesel guise, they are named as 2.4G 4×2 6MT, 2.4V 4×2 6AT, 2.8V 4×2 6AT, and 2.8V 4×4 6AT. Unlike India, the Thai-spec Toyota Fortuner would also come loaded with a 2.7L petrol engine and the petrol variant would be christened as 2.7V 4×2 6AT. Its quite clear from the variant nomenclature that only the range-topping trim in diesel gets a 4X4 drive system.
Coming to the interiors and dashboard of 2016 Toyota Fortuner, quite contrary to the earlier reports, it wouldn't be same as the Hilux Revo pick-up truck. The standard safety features with the Fortuner SUV would be Smart Key System with Keyless Entry, Start/Stop Button, knee airbags, ABS with EBD, Brake Assist (BA), Vehicle Stability Control system, Hill Assist Control, emergency light system. Mechanically, the India-spec Toyota Fortuner would be powered by a 2.8L, 4-pot diesel motor with maximum power of 177bhp and peak torque of 420Nm. It would be mated to 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions, while the AWD system would be offered with the top-end variant. Pricing is expected to be almost the same, while it would challenege the Ford Endeavour, Chevrolet Trailblazer, Isuzu MU-7 and Hyundai Santa Fe.
