Toyota has started teasing the much-anticipated 2016 Innova MPV ahead of its world premiere on November 23, 2015 in Indonesia. The first teaser image reveals the front fascia of the updated MPV. In fact, the bookings for the new Innova have already started in Indonesia. The Japanese automaker is expected to showcase the Innova facelift at the 2016 Indian Auto Expo in February, while the launch expected by the end of 2016.
Indonesian media has reported that the 2016 Toyota Innova would be launched in three trim levels: G, V and Q. In addition, the Indonesia-spec model would carry Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and 3 airbags (dual front and driver knee) as standard safety features. Recently, the official brochure of the MPV was leaked online and it showed the same exterior design as the first teaser image. The Indian model of 2016 Innova would be locally manufactured at the company's production facility in Bidadi, Karnataka. It is learnt that Toyota India, initially, has planned 90,000 units per annum production to cater the demands of buyers.
Mechanically, the new Innova would be carrying the all-new 2.4L, 4-cylinder, GD diesel engine. Just so you know, this new engine made its debut with the Toyota Hilux pick-up truck and generates 147bhp of top power at 3400rpm. The torque performance with 5-speed manual transmission and 6-speed automatic gearbox are 342Nm and 360Nm, respectively. Moreover, the Indian version of new Innova would also be offered in petrol guise with a 2.0L, 4-cylinder, Dual VVT-i engine. It develops a maximum power of 137bhp at 5600rpm and highest torque of 183Nm at 4700rpm. It would be available with both the 5-speed manual and the 6-speed automatic transmission. For those asking, Toyota India would launch the 2016 Fortuner before the new-generation Innova next year in the country.
