Toyota India has unveiled the 2016 Prius hybrid for the Indian audience at the ongoing Auto Expo. New Toyota Prius is based on Toyota New Generation Architecture (TNGA). Just so you know, the Japanese automaker has sold over 3.5 million Prius hybrids across the globe. The fourth-generation Prius is expected to launch in the country by mid 2016. The 2016 Prius had its global debut in Las Vegas in September 2015.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Naomi Ishii, Managing Director, Toyota Kirloskar Motor said, "India being a crucial market for us, we believe there is more to the market beyond just the numbers. We have taken good stock of our priorities for the road ahead and we do not want to make just more vehicles but also want to address other critical issues associated with energy, environment and safety with our revolutionary hybrid technology. Considering the rising oil imports, road safety and increased pollution, we believe that environment-friendly vehicles will go a long way to remedy this. And Implementation of environmental measures is one of the most important management goals of Toyota worldwide. We are actively working to promote hybrid and other environment friendly vehicles based on our stance that environment friendly vehicles can have a positive impact on the environment only if they are used widely."
Talking about the features of 2016 Toyota Prius, it comes with Wireless charger, front heated seats, 6-way adjustable driver's seat, 4-way adjustable front passenger seat, and Back door smart entry. The new Prius hybrid also gets LED headlamps with daytime running lights (DRLs). As for safety, the latest iteration of Prius boasts of a regenerative braking system with the trio of ABS, EBD and Brake Assist. In addition, it comes with 7 airbags and traction control as standard features. The new-generation Prius is presented with a drive selector system with three driving modes: Eco, Power and Normal.
Under the hood, the new Toyota Prius has a 1.8L, 4-cylinder petrol engine which is coupled with a CVT gearbox. The hybrid vehicle has a wheelbase of 2700mm. For those asking, the company unveiled the all-new Innova MPV on the first day of 2016 Auto Expo. The New Prius is an improvement keeping in mind the Prius DNA along with the FIRST ever introduction of TNGA in any Toyota Motor Corporation model. This together is the result obtained in the 4th Generation Prius. This continues to keep the Prius DNA intact which is “Always ahead of its times”.
