2016 Volkswagen Tiguan SUV has finally made its India debut at the 2016 Auto Expo. Having had its world premiere at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show in September, it is expected to launch in India by the end of 2016. In addition, the new Volkswagen Passat GTE has also made its debut in India alongside the Tiguan. The eco-friendly plug-in-hybrid variant combines an electric motor with a petrol engine, while it previews the new Passat saloon which would be launched soon in the country.
The new Tiguan is based on the Volkswagen group's MQB platform and is quite grown-up in size as compared to its predecessor. The India-spec model would also come with a 4X4 drive system. As for features, the Tiguan is fully loaded with premium features like an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, three-zone automatic climate control system, and panoramic sunroof. As for the safety of the occupants, there are 7 airbags on offer as standard. The exterior styling of the 2016 Tiguan SUV is inspired from Volkswagen Cross Coupe GTE. The angular LED headlamps with daytime running lights (DRLs), 18-inch diamond cut alloy wheels and new LED tail-lamp cluster makes it look appealing. The Tiguan would be powered by a 2.0L TSI engine which would develop 177bhp of top power. It would be linked to a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox which would transfer the power evenly to all the four wheels. The new 4MOTION Active Control would also let the drivers adjust the all-wheel drive system more.
Coming to the new Passat GTE, it comes loaded with a 1.4L TSI petrol engine which develops a maximum power of 154bhp. It is associated with an electric motor which belts out 113bhp, while the combined power output of both is 215bhp. They would be coupled with a 6-speed DSG automatic gearbox with peak torque performance of 400Nm. It has a driving range of 1,000 kms and even, in all-electric driving, it can go upto a distance of 50 kms. Just so you know, Volkswagen has also showcased the Ameo compact sedan, which had its global debut yesterday. The German automaker would also unveil the 3-door high-performance Polo GTI tomorrow - February 4, 2016 - at the event, which is expected to go on sale by September 2016.
