Audi A3 facelift, being unveiled just a few days back, is reported to carry the 1.4L powertrain in India. The updated sedan is expected to launch in the country in the first quarter of 2017. The A3 had its global debut in 2013, and is the entry-level model in the German luxury automaker's portfolio. The ongoing model carries the 1.8L TFSI petrol engine, and it would go for a toss in favour of a downsized 1.4L motor. Just so you know, the 1.4L engine in question here also powers the recently launched Audi A4.
First things first, 2017 Audi A3 would have subtle cosmetic modifications to the exterior and a few updates to the interior cabin. The new sedan can now be availed with Matrix LED headlights, albeit in Europe. The India-spec version is likely to be continued with the standard LED headlamps. The A3 facelift would flaunt A4-inspired LED headlamps, restyled front grille, revised bumper and all-new fog lamp enclosures. It would ride on 16-inch alloy wheels, while the rear end would get a new tail-lamp cluster. Inside the cabin, the 2017 A3 facelift would have a new 3-spoke steering wheel, an updated 12.3-inch TFT screen and Audi Virtual Cockpit as standard features. For those asking, Audi India also sells the open-top derivative - the A3 Cabriolet - of the sedan in the country. A couple of contemporary systems such as Traffic jam assist system and Adaptive cruise control system would also be available with the facelifted sedan.
Coming to the 1.4L TFSI petrol, it would churn out 150bhp of top power and 250Nm of peak torque, while the 1.8L engine with the ongoing model develops 180Nm of maximum power and 250Nm of highest torque. Despite being powered by the downsized mill, the A3 facelift would retain the 7-speed S-Tronic dual-clutch automatic transmission. However, it is believed to be more efficient than the current model in terms of mileage. The Audi A3 currently returns a fuel economy of 16.60kmpl (ARAI Specified). It is being also learnt that due to the downsized engine, the 2017 A3 facelift prices would start at Rs. 25 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom) as compared to the ongoing model's starting price, which is Rs. 27.10 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom). As for diesel variants, they would be offered with the same 2.0L TDI engine and the 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox.
