2017 Ford EcoSport would finally have its world premiere on November 14, 2016 in Los Angeles, California. The same was confirmed by Rap music artist DJ Khaled in one of the snapchat videos, last Wednesday. Even the casting and fan engagement agency has confirmed the same on its official website with the punchline, "Go Small, Live Big." Earlier, it was scheduled to debut at the 2016 Sao Paulo Auto Show in Brazil but the company pulled out at the last moment, citing that the compact SUV wasn't fully ready.
The 2017 Ford EcoSport is based on the Fiesta and comes with several styling updates. It would flaunt new front fascia and rear end, inspired from the larger vehicles in the company portfolio such as Ford Kuga and Ford Edge. Just so you know, Ford Edge is already on sale in the US. Inside the cabin, there would be a new dashboard and new features, including the SYNC3 infotainment system. The EcoSport is developed in several countries like India, Thailand, Brazil and Russia. Now, it would also enter production in Romania too to cater the demand of buyers in Europe. Till now, the Euro-spec model was developed at Ford's factory in India. Now, since the Romanian facility would develop the Euro-spec model, the Indian plant would be utilised in developing the US-spec EcoSport.
Under the hood, the Euro-spec models would retain the 1.0L 3-cylinder turbocharged EcoBoost petrol engine, 1.5L 4-cylinder Duratec petrol engine and 1.5L 4-cylinder Duratorq diesel engine. However, the company is believed to be introducing a new naturally-aspirated 1.5L 3-cylinder 'Dragon' petrol engine in the American markets. The American automaker offers the EcoSport with an AWD (4X4) system in Brazil and it is being learnt that the company is contemplating extension of the 4WD system in several more markets with the launch of facelifted model. However, it might be limited to the top-end grades only. But, if the India-spec 2017 Ford EcoSport comes with an optional AWD variant, it would be the smallest SUV in the country to get this feature. It is expected to be launched in the Indian market in the second half of 2017.
