Chevrolet unveiled the New-Gen Beat at the 2016 Auto Expo. While the car is scheduled to be launched in 2017, the company has already started testing it on the roads. Recently a camouflaged test mule was spotted testing on the Indian roads which suggests the company is well in line with its production and launching plans.
The India spec'd Beat would be based on the current platform unlike the global new generation model which is based on a brand new M2 platform. The new 2017 Beat will be available with 1-liter petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol engine will be the downsized version of the 1.4-liter ECOTEC engine whereas the diesel mill will be the existing engine fine-tuned for better performance and fuel efficiency. Both the engines will be mated with the same 5-speed transmission.
Although the front and rear end of the test mule was heavily camouflaged, it suggests the exteriors to be more or less similar to the existing model. The front end carries Chevrolet’s new two part grille with chrome surrounds, newly designed headlamps, and round fog lamps on the lower part of the bumper. The side profile of the car remains unchanged from its predecessor. At the rear, you can expect newly designed tail lamps and repositioned number plate.
The current gen Beat’s interior is finished in black color with silver inserts around the dashboard, but the 2017 Chevrolet Beat will come with dual tone interior. The dashboard will house a 7-inch MyLink infotainment system which acts as the ICE, the instrument cluster is now redesigned.
The Chevrolet Beat is available in the market for quite some time now, initially it was sold in good numbers but sadly it hasn't aged well. With the launch of better value for money competitors, the Beat lost its spark. However the company is trying to recreate its lost charm with the new Beat which will make the competition even more fierce in the budget hatchback segment.
