BMW India has launched the 2018 X3 SUV at an introductory price of Rs. 49.99 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom) in the country. It is offered in two diesel variants: Expedition and Luxury Line. Being developed locally at the company's Chennai production facility, 2018 BMW X3 will be available at company authorized dealerships from today. The German luxury automaker would launch the petrol variants at a later stage in 2018. The third-generation SUV comes with several cosmetic updates in form of refreshed exterior and new features.
Speaking of the exterior styling, the 2018 BMW X3 flaunts double kidney grille, fully adaptive LED headlamps and new LED foglamps with hexagonal design. The rear profile gets LED tail-lamp cluster with a low-slung roof spoiler and exhaust tail pipes on both sides in chrome. Automatic tailgate operation comes as a standard feature. Riding on 19-inch alloy wheels, the new SUV would be available in four colors: Mineral White, Sophisto Grey, Black Sapphire and Phytonic Blue. It has a boot capacity of 550 litres which can be further extended to 1600 litres, courtesy the 40/20/40 seat split function. The Luxury Line variant boasts of additional features such as chrome radiator grille bars, two-tone underbody protection in frozen grey matt with chrome trim, air breather in chrome etc. to name a few.
The cabin is finished in leather upholstery in Vernasca, while standard features include adjustable rear seat backrest, rear window sunblind, panoramic sunroof, BMW Display Key, Ambient lighting with six dimmable light designs, Wireless charging for mobile phones, Welcome Light Carpet, 12.3-inch multi-function instrument display, 10.25-inch BMW iDrive touchscreen infotainment system with Navigation, Apple CarPlay, BMW Apps and Bluetooth & USB connectivity, Rear-view camera with Park Assist and Harman Kardon 600-watts Surround Sound System. 2018 BMW X3 is equipped with a plethora of safety features in form of 6 Airbags, Attentiveness Assistance, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) including Cornering Brake Control (CBC), electric parking brake with auto hold and ISOFIX child seat mounting.
Mechanically, the 2018 BMW X3 is powered by the 2.0L 4-cylinder diesel engine which develops top power of 190bhp and peak torque of 400Nm between 1750-2500rpm. The engine is linked to an 8-speed Steptronic automatic transmission, which transmits the power to all the four wheels via the BMW xDrive all-wheel-drive system. The gears can also be changed through the steering wheel mounted paddle shifters. Weighing nearly 55 kgs less than its predecessor, the SUV does a 0-100kmph sprint in merely 8 seconds. Other prominent features include Auto Start-Stop, Brake-Energy Regeneration and Electronic Power Steering. The third-generation BMW X3 also gets three driving modes: ECOPRO, COMFORT and SPORT.
