Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India (HMSI) has silently launched the 2018 Activa-i at a sticker price of Rs 50,010 (Ex. Showroom, Delhi) in the country. Although the new iteration of Honda Activa-i is slightly pricier than the previous generation model, but it gets several new features. It will be available in five colors: Candy Jazzy Blue, Lush Magneta Metallic, Imperial Red Metallic, Mat Axis Grey Metallic and Orchid Purple Metallic. 2018 Honda Activa-i would take on the likes of Hero Pleasure, Suzuki Let’s, Yamaha Ray Z, and TVS Scooty Zest in the Indian market.
Speaking of the features, the new Activa-i scooter comes with a four-in-one ignition switch with a separate switch to open the seat, front hook, a dual-tone analogue instrument cluster and metallic exhaust muffler as standard. It is the third scooter in Honda's portfolio after Activa 5G and Activa 125. Featuring a spring loaded hydraulic suspension setup at the front and a mono-shock at the rear, the new scooter boasts of 130 mm drum brakes. In addition, combined braking system (CBS) is being offered as standard. The new model is based on an under-bone type architecture with lower weight, smaller dimensions and enhanced practicality. The scooter rides on 10-inch alloy wheels with 90/100-section tubeless tires.
Mechanically, 2018 Honda Activa-i is powered by the same 109 cc, single-cylinder, 2-valve engine which also does duties to the regular variants of Activa. It generates maximum power output of 8bhp at 7000rpm and peak torque performance of 9Nm at 5500rpm while linked to a V-Matic transmission. Having a fuel tank capacity of 5.3 litres, the scooter has a healthy ground clearance of 165mm with kerb weight of 103 kgs. The 2018 Activa-i has a claimed top speed of 83kmph and it has gets a fibre body in place of an all-metal body like the Activa 5G. Honda is targeting female riders with this new offering as the seat height is kept at 765mm.
