Reports in media suggest bookings for the upcoming 2018 Royal Enfield Himalayan ABS have started at a few authorized Royal Enfield dealerships. It is also suggested that the ABS equipped Himalayan variant and Himalayan Sleet ABS could be available at an additional premium of Rs 10,000 to Rs 12,000 over the non-ABS equipped version. This implies there would be a slight bump in the price which will give the 2018 Royal Enfield Himalayan ABS an edge over rivals from TVS and Bajaj clan.\
On the mechanical front, the bike is likely to retain the same single-cylinder, fuel-injected 411 cc engine that also powers the non-ABS version. In terms of power, the single-cylinder engine makes 24.8 bhp against top torque of 32 Nm. It is however not clear if the bike will get a switchable-ABS as it will be an entry-level ADV bike.
The Chennai based company made changes to its Himalayan range last year in tandem with the latest BS-IV emission norms for two-wheelers. Other changes were also made to the Himalayan range such as the dated carburettor was replaced with the fuel-injection system, it was although done in line with the BS-IV norms. It additionally received a small metal guard on the oil cooler, bar-end weights, luggage mounts below the rear seat and matte-black powder coating for the fuel tank’s cap.
