Toyota has unveiled the all-new Hiace in the Philippines which is all set to get a generation change. Currently in its fifth generation, the Toyota Hiace will be first launched in the Philippines. While Toyota has not revealed its plans to bring the new Hiace to India, reports in media suggest, the model could finally make its foray in the country courtesy the relaxed import norms.
Talking of the sixth-gen Toyota Hiace, it receives radical changes in terms of design. It looks sleeker than its predecessor and gets new styling elements such as redesigned headlamps, elegant front grille, angular front bumper and LED daytime running lights. The semi-bonnet design is the high point of the sixth-gen Toyota Hiace which means the engine is not mounted on the top of the front wheel axle. Besides, it ensures better safety and ride quality.
Moving to the insides, it has been changed completely in tandem with the new industry design standards for a vehicle belonging to the respective segment. The feature list inside the cabin includes a new driver information display, more compact multifunction steering, cruise control, multiple USB ports, LED reading lights and touchscreen system. As for safety, it gets a centre seat airbag, a first for a utility van.
The 2019 Toyota Hiace will be available in two body types-Normal/Standard Roof and Long/High Roof. In terms of dimensions, the Long/High Roof version is longer, higher and sits on a longer wheelbase as opposed to the Normal/Standard Roof version. The new Toyota Hiace offers more space to the passengers, that said, the headroom, shoulder space and legroom has been increased for the rear seat passengers by 40 mm, 15 mm and 166 mm respectively in the Commuter and Tourism versions.
The new Toyota Hiace has been built on a special revised platform. Besides, it gets a new leaf spring rear suspension set-up that is 200 mm longer and offers 30 mm longer bound stroke. The turning radius has also been reduced, while the turning angle has been increased by 7 degrees.
Engine choices on the 2019 Toyota Hiace include a 7GR 3.5-litre petrol engine and the 1GD 2.8-litre oil burner, while the details on the petrol engine are still under the wraps. The diesel engine offered on the Philippines-spec version can be had in three versions-163 bhp/420 Nm, 176 bhp/ 420 Nm and 176 bhp/450 Nm. Transmission options on the 2019 Toyota Hiace include a six-speed manual as well as a six-speed automatic unit.
