  • 2020 Hyundai Creta or Hyundai ix25 will be a little longer and wider.

  • Major changes in the exterior, especially headlamps and tail lamps.

  • Interior dominated by large portrait-style touchscreen infotainment system.

  • Might get a third row as well, as an option.

The next-generation Hyundai Creta has been revealed to the world as the Hyundai ix25 for the Chinese market. There are a lot of clues to what the new Creta will offer when it launches in the Indian market, so let’s have a closer look at it.

Let’s start with the exterior. The new Creta is 4300mm long, which makes it 30mm longer than the current Creta. It is 10mm wider as well, for a total width of 1790mm, and the height is 1622mm.

However, the cars in the Indian market tend to have more ground clearance, so it might end up being taller as well when it launches here. The extra length and width should translate to more cabin space – although it retains the two-box silhouette of the current Creta, it has a more upright grille and a very similar rear.

The Hyundai ix25 looks very different from the current model, because of the new grille. It follows the same design language as the Hyundai Venue. Yes, that means that it gets the split- headlamp feature as well, with the LED DRLs up high and the headlamps lower down in the bumper instead of above it.

The fog lamps and turn indicators are set extremely low, to either side of the faux skid plate. The skid plate itself has a brushed aluminum look. Overall, the look is a very busy one and not as cohesive as, say, the Kia Seltos.

Things don’t improve as the rear, with the tail lamps split into three elements just like the lighting at the front. The number plate recess has moved to the tailgate now from the bumper, and the bumper mirrors the front one in having a faux skid plate.

Of course, there are new alloy wheels, but it is not sure if the India-spec Creta will get the same design as international markets.

As reported by us, the 2020 Hyundai Creta interior will receive a big upgrade is the touchscreen infotainment system that will be integrated into a bunch of functions in the car. This will help it retain its crown as the model with the most features in the segment.

A lot of the features currently available in the segment will be present as well, like cruise control, ventilated front seats, a tyre pressure monitoring system, an electric parking brake, and a flat-bottomed multifunction steering wheel.

The three-row Creta is expected at a later time and will not be launched with the five-seat version.

The new Creta will share its driveline with the Kia Seltos. So we can expect the 1.5-liter petrol and diesel engines, as well as the 1.4-liter turbo petrol. Automatic gearbox options for all three will be offered as well.

Start/stop systems might be included for India to increase efficiency and meet BS-Vl norms more easily.

The new Creta will most probably launch in February 2020, so we can expect it to go on sale in India soon after. The current segment leader is the Kia Seltos, but there are a bunch of very credible options in the form of the Tata Harrier, MG Hector, Mahindra XUV 500, Renault Captur, and Nissan Kicks.
