- 2020 Santro Facelift being introduced due to low volumes.
Hyundai India is planning to introduce a minor facelift of the Santro hatchback which could be introduced by mid-2020. The facelifted model will boast of minor cosmetic updates while retaining the same BS 6 certified petrol engine. The South-Korean automaker had brought back the Santro to life in October 2018 on the 20th anniversary of the hatch in India.
The Santro Facelift could come with a few subtle cosmetic updates such as a restyled front grille and a new bumper at the front. The cabin is expected to get a few new features to keep the charm of hatchback alive. Hyundai Santro did really well in terms of sales numbers in the initial months of its launch but the numbers gradually started dropping downwards thereafter.
The initial months saw sales numbers go as high as 7000 units per month but from May 2019, they fell to 3000-3500 units while its arch-rival Wagon R registered sales in excess of 12000 units.
Just a couple of months back, Hyundai India launched the Santro Anniversary Edition with a few added equipment. It was available in Sportz trim level with manual as well as AMT gearbox with the price being Rs 5.16 Lakhs and Rs 5.74 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom), respectively. The company rejigged the variant lineup in July 2019 by discontinuing the entry-level Era and D-Lite variants and introducing a feature-packed Era Executive variant.
Mechanically, the 2020 Hyundai Santro Facelift will carry forward the same 1.1L 4-cylinder petrol engine which develops top power of 68bhp and peak torque of 99Nm.
Hyundai Santro takes on the likes of Tata Tiago, Ford Figo and Maruti Wagon R in the Indian market.
