- 2020 Jaguar XJ will be fully electric.
- It will have the same platform and engine as I-PACE.
- It could also be launched in India after I-PACE's launch in mid-2020.
Jaguar Land Rover, the British luxury marque, will take the wraps off the all-new 2020 Jaguar XJ by mid next year. It will be offered in an all-electric avatar to take on the likes of Tesla Model S, Porsche Taycan, Mercedes Benz EQS, and Audi E-Tron GT. The company teased the all-new iteration of its flagship sedan on the sidelines of 2020 Land Rover Defender world premiere at the ongoing 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA). It is expected to go on sale in 2021 in various international markets.
Though the iconic British brand refrained from divulging details it is being learned that the fully electric 2020 Jaguar XJ will be underpinning an all-new MLA platform. This platform will help in supporting a four electric motor to accommodate the all-wheel-drive system. The battery pack will be kept under the floorboard. It is expected to borrow the engine from the company's first all-electric SUV, the I-PACE. It will boast of the same 90kWh battery pack with a top power of 400bhp and peak torque of 700Nm while having a driving range of 350 kilometers. It is believed that Jaguar will also offer a non-electric variant alongside the electric variant. It could also be a plug-in-hybrid variant for better fuel efficiency and emission levels.
The 2020 Jaguar XJ will, as expected, be a head-turner in terms of styling and appearance, taking cues from the recently unveiled XE facelift. The features are also expected to be premium with several first-in-segment elements. The current-gen model has been on sale since the past decade or so as it debuted in 2009 and been shouldering the responsibility of driving the sales since then. The company had celebrated 50 years of XJ last year.
