2020 Mahindra Thar spotted testing.
Soft top and sideways-facing rear seats present.
Based on the new chassis, will have a new engine as well.
The 2020 Mahindra Thar is due for launch soon, and it will be a completely new generation of the vehicle. The list of changes is long, but what has just come to light is that some things might just remain the same – a test mule with a soft top and sideways-facing rear seats has been spotted.
The test mule had a short-looking wheelbase and not a lot of creature comforts, which could indicate that this will be the entry-level variant – or a specialist variant catering to those seeking hardcore off-road thrills. The top-spec variants will offer a touchscreen infotainment system and the option of a hardtop. It will also be larger, to accommodate the forward-facing second row. Power will be drawn from a new 2.0-litre engine that will also power the upcoming Scorpio and XUV500, and it will be BS-Vl compliant.
The Mahindra Thar remains in a class of one since there is no real competitor with the combination of off-road ability and refinement that it offers. The Force Motors Gurkha has a ton of off-road ability but not as many on-road manners, while the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross is an interesting option but will not make it as far off-road as the Thar, and costs more money.
