- The official launch of the 2020 Mahindra XUV500 could happen later this year
Right since its launch in 2011, the Mahindra XUV500 has been one of the most popular SUVs in town. A new avatar of the much-acclaimed SUV is due for a launch sometime later this year. Spy images show the refurbished version of the Mahindra XUV500 testing on Indian roads recently. It gives rise to the speculation that the second-generation Mahindra XUV500 could unveil at the 2020 Auto Expo in February in its concept form with a codename Mahindra W601.
The new model will get various changes to its exteriors and interiors to suit the tastes of the modern generation. These changes include a variety of safety updates in keeping with the pedestrian safety norms that come into effect later this year.
The second-gen Mahindra XUV500 exteriors will have the bulk of the alterations. Some of the additions include LED taillamps, automatic LED headlights, 18-inch alloy wheels, flush door handles, and so on. The refurbished door handles replace the traditional ‘Cheetah Claw’ designs found on the existing model. The images do not reveal whether the new design will have a pop-up function or the conventional lever-type arrangement.
However, the photographs reveal a significant portion of the exteriors that include a wide front grille, a straight nose, and DRLs similar to that found on the Mahindra XUV300.
The rear portion of the vehicle appears shrunken in size because of the new rear quarter-glass design. However, the design looks alluring enough to attract eyeballs.
The 2020 Mahindra XUV500 interiors could now include a redesigned dashboard with a floating touchscreen infotainment system placed at the centre. One can also expect the revamped vehicle to come with a fully digital instrument cluster. Images show the SUV to feature a new 3-spoke flat-bottomed steering wheel having various control options mounted on it.
As expected, the 2020 Mahindra XUV500 will feature a BS6-compliant diesel engine. The vehicle is based on a revolutionary platform that will serve as a base for the India-specific Ford C-SUV, as well. The highlighting feature of the new platform is that it facilitates the electrification of the vehicle should there be a need in the future. Therefore, one can expect an all-electric offering from Mahindra in this regard.
The 2020 Mahindra XUV500 could get a launch sometime later this year. In the meanwhile, auto lovers might get a glimpse of the SUV in its concept form at the 2020 Auto Expo.
