2020 Skoda Rapid for the Russian market has been teased in an image.
Russian, Chinese and Indian market Rapids are similar.
Shows the evolution of the current design and not a radical departure.
Promises more features and lower cost of ownership for the Indian market.
The Skoda Rapid is due for a generation change in 2020, and images of the next-gen Rapid have been emerging on the internet. The latest is a teaser image released by the company for the Russian market.
The Russian and Chinese market Skoda Rapid is very similar to the Indian market one, so it will reveal a few things that will be present on the India-spec model. First, it is an evolution of the current design and not a complete departure from what we know.
There were a few images leaked earlier from China, and that Rapid looked like it was based on the same platform as the current model – the platform codename is PQ25. However, the new Rapid is expected to shift to the MQB A0 platform, which promises more space and a much lower cost of ownership.
The design is an evolution of the current design, with a number of elements inspired by the Skoda Rapid hatchback. The nose is a more bluff one, with a larger bumper with more elements in it. The headlamps are going to be LED units in the top-spec variant.
It is quite an un-Skoda-like front, as the brand has so far opted for clean designs that may not excite the most, but appeal to a wide audience and age extremely well.
At the rear, the tail lamps look like something Hyundai would have thought up for the Verna, and the Skoda logo again has been tossed in favor of the actual brand name spelled out across space above the number plate recess.
The completely new Skoda Rapid is expected in India sometime during 2021 and will compete in the segment that includes the Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Toyota Yaris, and Volkswagen Vento.
