Kia Seltos and Hyundai Venue Are 2020 World Car of the Year Nominees

The World Car of the Year nominee list has been announced, and two of the nominees in the final list are cars that are both manufactured and sold in India. Namely, the recently-launched Kia Seltos, and Hyundai Venue.

Besides the Kia Seltos and Hyundai Venue, there are a couple of other familiar names as well in the list: the Renault Captur is in the list, but it is the Euro-spec model. The other familiar name is the Skoda Kamiq, the SUV that the manufacturer will launch in the Indian market soon. A complete list of the 2020 World Car of the Year nominees is as follows:

The World Car of the Year award is a prestigious award that considers cars from markets all around the globe and their relevance to those markets within their segments. It is just one category from a number of them, as part of the World Car Awards. Other categories include World Performance Car of the Year, World Luxury Car of the Year, and World Urban Car of the Year. The first two categories are self-explanatory, and the third category is awarded to cars that do well in the urban jungle. Surprisingly, no Indian market small car has made it to the list this time, although the Hyundai Santro did make it to the nominee list last year.

The World Car Awards have been running for the last decade and a half, and the jury is comprised of automotive journalists from around the world. It is an event organized and run by them as well, which is why it gives manufacturers a lot of prestige when they win an award.
