3% Global Sales Growth recorded by Jaguar Land Rover in February

Snapshot: In the February this year ‘Jaguar Land Rover’ has improved its sales from the same period last year.

A few years back Tata Motors bought Jaguar Land Rover from Fords Motors. The acquisition proved to be very lucrative and the demand for Land Rovers is improving every year, particularly in the emerging markets, China and Brazil.  In the February this year ‘Jaguar Land Rover’ has improved its sales from the same period last year.  It has been able to sell a little above 26,000 vehicles (26,855), achieving a record of 3 per cent.  In the January and February of 2013 the car manufacturers sold nearly “61,732” cars.

The sales of the car was good in all markets expect in China this year.  The breakup of sales figures for 2013 for all markets is:

  • In Asia Pacific - 20% in February and 32% in January
  • North America - 20% in February and 22% in January
  • United Kingdom - 15% in February and 30% in January
  • Europe - 6% in February and 8% in January

From the above figures it is apparent that there was a phenomenal surge in sales in all markets, except in China, though sales were good in the same sector last year.  In China the sales showed a downward curve, nearly 22%.

The Jaguar Land Rover group says that it may be due to the celebration of New Year by Chinese, in February.  Last year it was celebrated in January.  However, the company is not very worried of this dip in the sale of its cars.  It hopes that the car sales would improve in this sector as well after the new year’s celebration is over.

The management has analyzed that the sales improved tremendously after a new vehicle “The Land Rover Freelander” was unveiled.  ‘The Land Rover Freelander’ is a very compact Sports Utility Vehicle and combines both comfort and quality performance.  It is a very popular model, particularly in the United Kingdom. The sales figure increased nearly 26% after it came into the market.

The sales of Jaguar Land Rover have not improved in India.  Some of the causes may be the rising cost of fuel and low economic growth.  However, it is hoped that as the economy improves and the confidence returns the sales of ‘Jaguar Land Rover’ may improve in this sector as well.
