There is a fear in the world that the fossil fuel is likely to become more expensive as the fuel resources are depleting. The discerning public is also aware of the harm the emission of carbon di oxide does to the atmosphere and ecofriendly drivers are searching for transport system which is more environmentally friendly and does not depend on fossil fuel for energizing the engines. The answer is hybrid cars which are both environmentally friendly as well as use different types of energy, like electricity, to generate power. The Japanese car manufacturing giant Toyota is a global leader in making and selling hybrid cars. They are working on a product portfolio which will have more hybrid cars.
‘Prius’ is a ‘Toyota’ model which uses both ‘gasoline and eletricity’ to generate power and is one of their most popular ‘hybrid’ car model. The brand is very popular all over the world and the company has recently announced that they were able to sell three ‘million’ pieces of this model ‘globally’. The model was first unveiled in the year ‘2007’. This was the first time when a hybrid car was manufactured in large numbers. Toyota Motor Corporation then introduced to the market a ‘second’ and ‘third’ generation models of ‘Prius’. They modified the vehicle to bring down the ‘cost’ by increasing ‘fuel efficiency’ to ‘38’ KM for a litre. The company had also ‘applied’ for patents which are used in the 3rd generation vehicle. The number was ‘1,261 patents’. This was a very clever move as the company is able also to concentrate on producing and developing parts which are used in the production of hybrid cars. These important parts are ‘batteries, motors, inverters and ECUs’ (‘Electronic control units’). Toyota has become leading supplier of the components needed in the manufacturer of environmentally friendly cars.
‘Prius’ is recently unveiled in India as well and the company is studying the trends before introducing other hybrid cars in India.
