Earlier, we used to believe that people are buying these cars because of their extremely low maintenance cost and great mileage & after sales value. But things turned upside down after we received our customer’s feedback on this.
Autoportal talks to thousands of new car buyers every month & millions of buyers visit our site. We receive updates on a regular basis from our users regarding feedback with their existing car, plans to buy new cars, etc.
We did a study and surveyed across our buyers in May 2019 to understand the people’s car selection ethics over particular models and brands.
Below is a summary of our findings based on the exact reasons that people consider.
Overall Auto Industry:
The top 3 reasons for buying a car were Brand Value, Dream Car & Budget. These 3 factors contribute to 70% of the responses. Surprisingly, mileage was mentioned as the least at just 5%. The other factors included were Maintenance and friends & family's suggestions.
The top three reasons for customers who selected a Maruti Suzuki car are “Brand Value”, “Dream Car”, “Friends & Family's Suggestions” which together contributed to 69% of the responses. Interestingly “Budget” dropped to 4th place.
Similar to what we saw for Overall industry, people approached Hyundai cars in a similar manner. Though, the upper three categories contributed to 78%.
Interesting! So, the gist is, Indian car buyers have started relating more to the emotional aspects of a car.
