Hyundai has rolled out its 500,000th automobile from its production plant in Saint Petersburg, Russia. The 500,000th sedan is an exclusive red Russian Solaris (known as the Verna in India) powered by a 1.6 liter engine wedded with an automatic gearbox. The car came out of the factory in the presence of Mr. Georgy Poltavchenko, Governor of Saint Petersburg, and Shin Myeong Ki, the General director of Hyundai Motors manufacturing Russia. Apart from them there were, dealers, customers and the guests of honor were the employees of the production plant. During the ceremony the workers were given special recognition for their effort and dedication.
This milestone was reached by the South Korean manufacturing giant in less than 30 months of beginning the Solaris’ production. The Solaris/Verna is the only car of Hyundai that is manufactured in the Saint Petersburg plant. This plant was established in the month of January, 2011. Back then the production capacity was around a 150,000 units annually, by the end of 2011 the capacity was increased to 200,000 units. By employing the locals, Hyundai has provided job opportunities for more than 2,200 residents of the city which makes up 47% of the workers in the plant. Spaced out from that the company has also created indirect prospects for nearly 4,000 people of the region.
The Solaris or Verna is currently available in two petrol variants for the citizens of Russia, a 1.4 liter with 107 BHP and a 1.6 liter with 123 BHP. Both these engine variants are obtainable in manual or automatic transmission options. In India the same called known as the Verna is available in diesel version as well. Soon after rolling out of the factory, Solaris became the best seller among all the foreign brands in Russia, it has also won the “Car of the Year” title twice in a row, 2012 and 2013.
