This very day, a month ago, we reported about the new low cost hatchback from Renault, codenamed XBA to be launched in India. The latest news is, they will add the AMT gearbox to the 800cc 3-cylinder car and it can dethrone Maruti Alto K10 AGS as the cheapest Automatic. The XBA small car has been caught multiple times on camera, albeit with heavy camouflage, while doing test run in India. Hence, nothing much is known about the design, except the fact that it would be based on the Datsun Redi-Go concept.
The engine of the car though, is the talk of the town, as this is a new and smallest capacity engine developed by Renault and will debut with this car. Codenamed BR-8, the motor is an all-new 800cc, three-cylinder unit, and is developed at the Renault-Nissan Technical Center in Chennai with heavy inputs and assistance from Nissan and Renault's global Research & Development centers in Japan and France respectively.

AMT, though, is the latest addition to the minute details we know and will be pitted directly against the new AMT-fitted Alto K10. Apart from the AMT, the future engine options could include a more powerful 1.0-litre petrol motor (codename: BR10), but there will be no diesel engine option. Renault is making sure that this engine turns out to be a sophisticated piece of hardware by offering best efficiency and power output.
Expected to be under the Rs 4 lakh category, this new car will challenge the likes of Maruti Alto 800 and Hyundai Eon and is expected to come around the second half of 2015.
