Fiat India has started teasing the Fiat 500 Abarth prior to its official launch slated in the second half of 2015. It would also mark the introduction of Fiat's high-performance Abarth brand. Being firstly showcased at the 2014 Autocar Performance Show in December, it would be sold as a CBU product in India. Also, the numbers would be limited of this hot hatchback in the country.
Fiat Abarth 500 is quite different from the standard 500 due to the inclsuion of low front bumper with graphite insert. It also flaunts a Abarth scorpion badging at the front fascia instead of the Fiat's emblem. Abarth 500 rides on exclusive 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped with Pirelli PZero 205/40 tyres. Some of its other striking features are side body decals, an aggressive rear bumper and a roof mounted spoiler. This performance-oriented hatch would rival the Mini Cooper S and would be an integral part of Fiat's aggressive strategy for the Indian market. Fiat India has also confirmed that a new product would be launched every two months till the end of 2015.
Under the hood, the Abarth 500 would have a 1.4L turbocharged petrol engine which is capable of generating a maximum power of 158bhp and peak torque of 210Nm. The 3-door hatch would be available with AMT gearbox with paddle-shifters mounted on the steering wheel. Power would be transferred to the front wheels of the hatch. However, the company hasn't revealed the exact launch date yet, but media reports indicate a July 2015 launch for the Fiat 500 Abarth.
