Fiat India has officially confirmed that it would introduce its high-performance Abarth brand on August 4, 2015 in the country. The first Abarth badged vehicle would be the 595 Competizione, which is the performance version of Fiat's pre-facelifted 500. Besides Abarth 595, the company would also be launching the high-performance version of Punto and Avventura under Abarth branding, albeit sometimes later.
Talking about the Abarth 595 Competizione, it would be sold as CBU and would be priced around Rs. 25-30 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom). As of features, it is expected to boast HID headlights, 17-inch alloy wheels with Pirelli PZero tyres, a rear spoiler, automatic climate control, steering mounted controls, and music system with Bluetooth connectivity. In addition, there would be Scorpion-shaped Abarth badges outside as well as inside on the seats. It would rival the BMW's Mini Cooper S and Volkswagen Beetle. The 595 Competizione would be powered by a 1.4L, 4-pot, turbocharged petrol engine which would generate a maximum power of 158bhp and peak torque of 210Nm. It would be coupled with a 5-speed AMT unit, which would transmit the power to the front wheels.
Fiat India would sell Abarth products through some selected dealerships in major cities, initially. Recently, the Punto and Avventura were spied wearing an Abarth badge and the power output was said to be around 135bhp. It was also learnt that Abarth Punto and Avventura would be assembled locally at Ranjangaon plant, which would help the company to price them under Rs. 10 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom). Just so you know, Fiat is also bringing its Jeep brand in India, which would start selling its vehicles from next year. Also, Fiat-owned luxury brand Maserati is making a comeback in India this month by inaugurating a new dealership in Mumbai. Seems like Fiat Group is on a real move as far as Indian market is concerned.
