The launch of the Renault Kwid was a big moment not only for the Renault but also India. With a price range of Rs 3-4 Lakhs, this is the vehicle that would find its place in most of the homes in India, given that the product is good. And since we witnessed the launch and had a feel of the car firsthand, we came out impressed to say the least.
And now our friends at the TeamBHP have managed to get some additional details about the entry-level hatchback, given an SUV treatment. Renault was reluctant to give away the engine details, which we know is a 800 cc basic and simple engine manufactured specially for the Kwid. According to reports, it will be a 57 BHP producing mill.
The car will be based on the Renault-Nissan Alliance's affordable Common Module Family -Afordable (CMA-A) platform. And Renault will be going all out with the mileage figures, an industry best we can expect. Renault will be launching a petrol unit for now with a 5-speed manual gearbox.
Though Renault will launch a possible Automatic version with a rotary shifter and a diesel engine in the future. The car will be pitted against the industry leader Maruti Suzuki Alto and Hyundai Eon. A SUVish styling and first in class navigation system will also be given in the car with a single airbag for the top variant.
While this may not interest you, but the interiors of the car were designed by an Indian while the rest of the car is made by efforts of engineers from India, France and Japan!
