Alfa Romeo the Italian car manufacturer has revealed its first SUV, named Stelvio, at the Los Angeles motor show this week. The brand has revealed three variants of its first SUV - Stelvio, Stelvio Ti and Stelvio Quadrifoglio. The SUV is based on Giorgio platform, which also underpins the Giulia sedan. This time the all new 5-passenger vehicle will be made in Italy, and will compete against crossovers like BMW X3, Audi Q5 and Mercedes-Benz GLC.
The Italian company is offering the SUV in two engine choices. Both the Stelvio and the Stelvio Ti carries a turbocharged, 4 cylinder, 2.0-liter engine, that can produce maximum power of whooping 280 horsepower. While the Stelvio Quadrifoglio is powered by a 2.9 litre V6 engine, which is developed by Ferrari, and can churn out a maximum of a massive 505 horsepower. Only the Quadrifoglio variant comes with all wheel drive system and an 8-speed transmission, which gives the compact SUV the capability to go anywhere. Alfa Romeo is emphasizing on the performance of the SUV, which is the main USP, and it is expecting quite a lot of fan following for the SUV.
According to Reid Bigland, the head of Alfa Romeo, Stelvio is an uniquely engineered SUV, which challenge two-door sports cars on the track, without sacrificing any of the characteristics you would expect from a premium SUV, resulting in the perfect mix of high performance, capability and brilliant Italian design.
The company has nicely equipped the Stelvio with features that includes, 18-inch alloy wheels, leather seats, rearview camera with parking sensors, powered tailgate, a flat-bottom steering wheel and push button start. The Stelvio Ti packs features like bigger 19-inch wheels, wood accents in the cabin, and an 8.8-inch display housed in the central console. Customers can also choose Sports and Lusso packages for their Stelvio Ti through which they can tailor made their SUVs either of high performance or for luxury taste.
The more powerful Quadrifoglio carries a dashboard finished in leather and flat bottom sport steering wheel, sports seats that are covered with leather and Alcantara, adaptive suspension tuned for sports, torque vectoring, high performance brakes and nice looking carbon fibre cabin accents. Customers can also choose the performance pack, which will help to shed some weight of the car and it also provides better braking ability due to the use of carbon fiber bucket seats and Brembo carbon ceramic brakes.
