Maruti Suzuki India, the largest manufacturer of cars in India also exports its vehicles in large numbers to various countries including Algeria, which is gathering a lot attention from manufacturers lately. Elsecom Automobile, the official distributor for Suzuki cars in Algeria, has recently showcased the new Maruti Alto K10 and an updated Maruti Alto 800 in Algeria with changed interiors.
The most prominent change includes the addition of safety features to both the cars. Suzuki Alto 800 and K10 now comes equipped with dual front airbags and ABS. While the K10 had optional driver-side airbags in India, the dual-airbags are new to the cars and so is the ABS, which now comes as standard on both the cars. Both these safety features are not offered in India.
Apart from the addition of safety features, the interior on the Alto 800 is also refreshed and is based on the new K10’s interior. Both the cars now get an all-black theme (the K10 offered in India gets a dual-tone black-and-beige theme). The dashboard comes with the same features like the dual-din music system capable of CD/MP3/Aux-in. Also, the height-adjustable headrests on the front seats are on offer in Algeria, which is unavailable in India.
Under the hood, both the cars will get the same set of engines. The three-cylinder 796cc engine in the Alto 800 is good for 48ps and 69 Nm of torque, while the three-cylinder 998cc on the K10 develops 68ps and 90Nm, in the Indian specification. Both the engines will be sourced from the Maruti's Guragon plant and will be supplied in the left-hand drive specification in the Algerian market.
We are not sure if the Indian market will get the same safety features in the future, but we would very much like to see even the base version with such features in India.
