MG Motor India has unveiled the all-electric ZS SUV in the country ahead of its launch in January 2020. It is based on the ZS SUV sold globally, however, the Indian market will get it in just the electric avatar.
The company announced that ZS EV will be initially retailed in five cities in India: Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Ahmedabad. MG ZS EV will enter series production from next month at the company's Halol plant in Gujarat.
Speaking of the all-electric MG ZS, it measures 4314mm in length with a seating capacity of five adults. It has an electric motor at the helm with a top power of 143bhp and a peak torque of 353Nm. The motor fetches power from a 44.5kWh liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery which propels the SUV to do a 0-100kmph sprint in just 8.5 seconds.
The battery pack gets an IP-67 rating while also featuring a management system that makes it water-resistant to up to 1 meter. MG ZS EV comes with a driving range of 340 km. In addition, the SUV also boasts of three driving modes and three types of regenerative braking.
MG ZS EV can be charged to 80 percent from standstill in just 50 minutes through a 50 kW DC fast charger. However, the 7.4 kW AC socket which the company plans to set at homes and offices of the owners will charge it fully in 6-8 hours of time.
MG Motor will also give a cable with the ZS so that the SUV can be charged by plugging it in the wall socket. MG Motor India is also in the processing of setting up a network of DC fast chargers at selected showrooms, with a vision to further expand it to satellite cities in a phased wise manner.
