In an earlier story we informed you that Ford is currently working on the next-generation Ford Figo, which could be unveiled at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo. Now the same has been confirmed by our close sources. The sources further reveal that the same vehicle will be first launched in the UK by early 2014, and India will have to still wait for an year.
The all new Figo will be built on the old Fiesta platform, although it will tweaked and shortened to make it a light weight and hatchback compatible. Also, the company will use thin and high-standard steel to bring its weight down. The Figo that is currently sold in two engine options- 1.2-litre petrol and 1.4-litre diesel will also get the 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine in its next generation.
Ford Figo had been the top-seller for the company till the compact SUV EcoSport arrived in the market. So, at a time when the competition in the hatchback segment has reached to an all new level, bringing in an all new Figo seems an idea going in favour of Ford.
Moreover, if rumours are to be believed, Ford is also testing a Ford Figo sedan, which we believe has been also built on the old fiesta platform. However, the company hasn't yet said anything on the same. We will update you on the same as soon as we hear it from our sources, stay tuned to Autoportal India.
