All-New Honda WR-V has made global debut in production form at the 2016 Sao Paulo Auto Show in Brazil. Being based on the Fit (Jazz) hatch, it is expected to be launched in the Indian market in the first half of 2017. The Japanese automaker would introduce the crossover in South America as well. The WR-V has been designed and developed by Honda R&D centre in Brazil. For those asking, WR-V stands for 'Winsome Runabout Vehicle' and it would be positioned below the BR-V in the company's product portfolio in India.
Takahiro Hachigo, President, Chief Executive Officer and Representative Director of Honda Motor Co., Ltd. said, “Ever since we began business in Brazil in 1971, Honda has been supported by a total of 24 million customers in Brazil through their purchase of our motorcycles, automobiles and power products. Introduction of this all-new WR-V is a testament to Honda’s commitment to the South American market, and we will continue to deliver more products unique to Honda that please our customers." Honda has described WR-V as "“tough and urban” SUV, which comes with "a spacious cabin within a compact body size". The company hasn't released the images and details of the interior cabin and features to be offered with the crossover.
Issao Mizoguchi, President and Director of Honda Automoveis do Brazil Ltda. said, "Including the establishment of a new automobile R&D Center in Brazil which became operational in 2013, Honda has been strengthening its product development to accommodate the needs of customers in this region. This WR-V is one of the major achievements resulting from such efforts. With the introduction of this new SUV, in addition to the CR-V and HR-V, we will further strengthen the presence of Honda in the South American region.” The engine and trasnsmission details are not released at the moment, but the Japanese automaker has said that WR-V "features outstanding fuel economy and stable handling performance." Honda WR-V crossover would give sleepless nights to the likes of Volkswagen CrossPolo, Toyota Etios Cross, Hyundai i20 Active and Fiat Urban Cross.
