The 2019 Hyundai Santro has been grabbing eyeballs ever since the carmaker revealed plans to resurrect the model in the domestic market. Reports in media are rife the hatchback could fall in the price range of Rs 3.7 lakh to Rs 5.4 lakh (ex-showroom). The model which was earlier estimated to be priced at Rs 4 lakh is likely to be launched in five variants-Era, Mangna, Sportz, Sportz (O) and Asta.
Compared to other models in the segment, such as Tata Tiago and Maruti Celerio which cost Rs 3.40 lakh and Rs 4.21 lakh respectively, the new Santro is likely to carry a competitive pricing. As for the specifications, the 2019 Hyundai Santro will get a 1.1-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine good for 68 bhp against 99 Nm torque. This unit will come paired to a conventional five-speed manual unit. In addition, there could be an optional five-speed Smart Auto AMT gearbox as well.
Hyundai could also offer an optional factory fitted CNG kit. As for the AMT version, it is likely to be available at an additional premium of Rs 30,000. Fighting the likes of Tiago and Celerio in the segment, the new Hyundai Santro will offer an ARAI rated fuel economy of 20.3 km/l in manual as well as automatic guise.
On the safety front, expect the 2019 Hyundai Santro to get driver side airbag, driver & co-driver SBR, ABS and manual override for central locking system as standard. The higher grades in the carline will additionally come with co-passenger airbag, rear parking camera, rear parking sensors, rear wiper, rear AC vents, power adjusting mirrors and height adjustable driver’s seat. While the Asta grade is likely to miss out on the AMT unit, it will receive an array of gizmos and gadgets such as a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system supported by Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
