Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), the home-grown automaker, has announced the launch of all-new XUV700 (Ssangyong Rexton based Y400 SUV) on October 9, 2018 in the Indian market. Being showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo earlier this year, Mahindra XUV700 would be the brand's new flagship SUV while it is expected to be priced around Rs 24 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom). The shipping of CKD kits of G4 Rexton has already started from South Korea and the new Mahindra model would take on the likes of Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and Isuzu MU-X in the country.
Visually, the foremost difference between the India-spec model and the model sold globally is of the grille that would feature a 'Mahindra' badge instead of the SsangYong emblem. In addition, the company has worked on the suspension set-up to accommodate the Indian roads. Besides these handful of updates, the SUV would be identical to the international model. As for the features, Mahindra XUV700 would boast of several premium features in form of HID headlamps, LED Daytime Running Lights (DRLs), electric sunroof, 9.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, ventilated seats, aelectric parking brake, 9-airbags, ABS with EBD, traction control, etc. to name a few.
Measuring 4850mm in length, 1960mm in width and 1825mm in height, the all-new SUV would have a wheelbase of 2865mm. Mechanically, it would be powered by the 2.2L e-XDi220 LET diesel engine which will develop top power of 184bhp and peak torque of 400Nm. The SUV will be offered with both the 6-speed manual and the 7-speed automatic transmission. The automatic variants are learnt to be having even higher torque output of 420Nm. The XUV700 will also get the 4WD system, albeit in top trims. Although, the SUV is available in few more configurations in international markets but it highly unlikely that the company will introduce them in India. Mahindra has also lined-up the Tivoi-based S201 mini SUV for an early 2019 launch.
