India's leading carmaker Maruti Suzuki India is planning to bring in the replacement of SX4, which has never been a top-selling car for the company, despite being a potent product. The replacement is the same Suzuki YL1 (codenamed), which has been doing test runs for quite sometime in India. When we contacted to our sources on the probable launch timeline of the car, they hinted at the official unveiling of the car at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo. So, we expect the launch to happen within the first quarter of 2014.
Design of the new model seems to have taken its inspiration from the Suzuki Authentics Concept, which was previewed at the 2013 Shanghai Motor Show. The platform on which the new model will be based is the same on which Maruti Ertiga is built on. In fact, interior design, engines and components too can be shared with the Swift and Ertiga.
Having both the petrol and diesel engine options, the YL1 is expected to use the same Ertiga's 1.4-litre K2 petrol mill, while the diesel version is expected to be the existing 1.3-litre DDiS mill. The spy shots of the YL1 reveal that the dashboard design and black and beige colour scheme of the new model are also similar to that of the Ertiga's. The new SX4 will also share several features with Ertiga and Swift, though being a more upmarket vehicle, there might be more advanced features.
