The new-generation Hyundai Santro tall-boy hatchback was launched in October 2018. The hatchback has received an excellent response from car buyers, as the model enters into the list of top 10 selling cars in India in October. This also helped the Korean brand to gain 3 spots in the list of top 10 selling cars of India. Hyundai has delivered 8,535 units of the new Santro in the first month of launch.
Hyundai has claimed that the new Santro has received over 30,000 pre-orders since October 10, 2018. While automatic Santro accounts for 30% of total bookings, while the CNG variant garnered 21% of total bookings. Not just Santro, Hyundai's premium hatchback Elite i20 grab 5th position with 1,3290 units. The Grand i10 hatchback is another Hyundai in the list with 11,820 units sold in the month of October 2018.
The new Hyundai Santro is available in a total of 9 variants across 5 trims. It is priced between Rs 3.89 lakh and Rs 5.64 lakh (ex-showroom, India). The small car rivals the Renault Kwid, Tata Tiago, Maruti Suzuki Celerio and Maruti WagonR. Powering the Santro is a 1.1-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine that produces 68bhp of power and 99Nm of torque. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and an AMT unit.
The new Santro is also available with CNG option, where the engine offers 59bhp of power and 84Nm of torque. While the petrol Santro delivers 20.3kmpl, the CNG-kitted model returns 30.5km/kg. The new model is available with several segment-leading features like a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, MirrorLink, Navigation, voice recognition feature and rear parking camera display. It is also the first car in its category to offer rear air-con vents. Other features include multi-functional steering wheel, adjustable headrests, driver side airbag, ABS with EBD as standard, etc.
