All-new Skoda Karoq has made its world premiere in Stockholm, while it would go on sale in major global markets from the second half of 2017. It would be replacing the Yeti crossover and is the second SUV in the company portfolio after Kodiaq. Underpinning the Volkswagen Group's MQB architecture, it appears as the smaller version of the 7-seater Kodiaq SUV. The SUV would come in both petrol and diesel fuel trims with a total of five powertrains in both manual and automatic transmissions. For those asking, the Karoq is the first Skoda model to come with a digital instrument panel with four layouts: Classic, Digital, Info-Profile and Reduced.

Bookings for the Skoda Kodiaq SUV has started at Rs. 51,000/- across India!

As for the dimensions, the Skoda Karoq measures 4382mm in length, 1841mm in width and 1605 mm in height, while having a wheelbase of 2638 mm. It has a boot capacity of 521 litres, which can be further extended by upto 1630 litres by folding down the rear seats. It also has additional convenience of the VarioFlex system, which consists of three individually adjustable and removable seats. This system makes the maximum load capacity even higher at 1810 litres. As for features, the Skoda Karoq boasts of Full-LED headlights, LED fog lights, 19-inch alloy wheels, LED ambient lighting, electrically adjustable and heated seats, Skoda Phonebox for wireless charging and enhanced cellular connectivity, 9.2-inch Columbus infotainment system with 64 GB storage, DVD/CD drive, navigation and gesture control.

Speaking of the safety of the occupants, Skoda Karoq gets Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Spot Detect and Rear Traffic Alert, City Emergency Brake with Predictive Pedestrian Protection, Lane Assist, Driver Alert and Traffic Sign Recognition as standard systems. It also features drive select system with five modes: Normal, Sport, Eco, Snow (only with AWD) and Off-road (Optional with AWD). The electronic differential lock is more impressive, effective and competent than before, while the Dynamic Chassis Control lets the driver select from three chassis tunings in the SUV: Normal, Sport and Eco. The company has worked substantially on the driving dynamics on the rough terrains.

Mechanically, the Karoq is presented in both petrol and diesel fuel trims with a host of engines. As for petrol, it would be available with a new 1.0L 3-cylinder turbocharged TSI engine with maximum power of 113bhp and peak torque of 175Nm. The company has also added the 1.5L 4-cylinder turbocharged TSI engine with ACT to the petrol line-up, which belts out 147bhp and 250Nm. Both the engines are linked to a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission. Coming to the diesel front, the Skoda Karoq would be powered by a new 1.6L 4-cylinder turbocharged TDI engine with top power of 113bhp and highest torque of 250Nm. Needless to say, the tried-and-trusted 2.0L 4-cylinder turbocharged TDI diesel engine would also be at the helm of affairs in two power and torque modes: 147bhp and 340Nm & 186bhp and 400Nm. The transmissions on offer would be the same 6-speed manual and 7-speed DSG automatic with both the engines, while an AWD system would be there with the top-end 190PS variant.
