The all-new Toyota Fortuner SUV has started reaching showrooms in India. Recently, a black-coloured SUV model was spotted at a dealership in Ahemdabad. Bookings for the 2016 Fortuner is already open in the country unofficially with a down-payment of Rs 1 lakh. The model was first imported into the country in October 2015, while the new Fortuner has been spotted several times wearing heavy camouflage in recent times.
Built on Toyota's New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform, the new model wears a whole new revised design, featuring projector headlamps with LED daytime running lights, chrome grille, redesigned taillights with LED inserts and will ride on 18 inch alloy wheels, while looking at the side profile, it gets a prominent edgy cut near the C-pillar in the window line.
In the international market, the 2016 Toyota Fortuner is being offered in one petrol and two diesel engine options. But, in India, the model will come powered with diesel power units, same that are employed in the Innova Crysta. The 2.4-litre diesel engine with 148 bhp and 400 Nm of top torque, while the 2.8-litre turbodiesel GD engine is good to develop 175 bhp with 450 Nm of torque. The engine will come connected either to a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic, while a four wheel drive system could also be used as a wild card for the range topping 2.8L variant.
The 2016 Toyota Fortuner will pound on the rivals such as Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, Chevrolet Trailblazer and Ford Endeavour. The expected price of the model can fall in the range Rs 25 lakh – Rs 30 lakh (ex-showroom). Recently, the Ford has also revised the price of the Endeavour, cutting the price up to Rs 2.82 lakh.
