Volvo Auto India has announced the launch of all-new S90 sedan on November 4, 2016 in the country. The company dealers across the nation have also started accepting orders for the sedan, which would replace the ageing S80 sedan in the Indian market. Recently, the Swedish automaker held the media drives of the new sedan in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. The all-new S90 would be Volvo's new flagship sedan and would challenge the likes of Mercedes-Benz E Class, BMW 5 Series, Audi A6 and Jaguar XF in India.
Volvo would launch the fully-equipped range-topping variant of the S90 in the country. It is being learnt that the lower variants would be made available at a later stage. Underpinning the company's new modular SPA architecture, the all-new S90 would flaunt the Gothenburg-based automaker's latest design language, which we have already seen on the new XC90 SUV. The exterior features include XC90 inspired 'Thor's Hammer' LED daytime running lights (DRLs) in the headlights and a vertical nose. The cabin is also borrowed from the XC90, with a plethora of elements such as a big portrait-style touchscreen infotainment system, instrument cluster and steering wheel. The all-new Volvo S90 would also debut several of Volvo's radar-based safety systems in India.
The India-spec Volvo S90 would be powered by the D4 diesel engine. The 2.0L 4-cylinder D4 motor would rake in 187bhp of top power and 400Nm of peak torque. It would be linked to an 8-speed Aisin-Warner automatic transmission. It is being learnt that the company has plans to introduce the more powerful D5 engine as well, but at a later stage. It would develop 232bhp of maximum power and 480Nm of highest torque. The D5 engine would also feature an all-wheel-drive (AWD) system as standard. The Volvo S90 D4 could be priced in a range of Rs. 50-55 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom, Delhi). With all the premium comfort and safety features, it would indeed be an enticing package for the buyers.
